Hashimoto Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing chronic inflammation and gradual destruction of thyroid cells. Over time, this reduces the gland’s ability to produce essential thyroid hormones, leading to hypothyroidism. Symptoms may develop slowly and can include fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, and mood changes. It is one of the most common causes of an underactive thyroid.
